30 years ago, this year (2018),
<PIG>'s first album,
A Poke In The Eye… With A
Sharp Stick, was released in 1988. Two prime cuts were released off the album as singles, a smokey
Never For Fun and a cured
Sick City. The second single
Sick City was backed with the "Shit For Brains" track which a low budget
music video was recorded for (see
last week's article).
Interestingly, the first single had a rare
Wax Trax! UK 12"
vinyl pressing (we're still to find one for the
CyberNoise archive) whereas the second single was not released on
Yellow in Germany/Europe but
Potomak
instead.
Potomak is
Einstürzende Neubauten's label and
Raymond was their sound engineer around
this point in time.
After these two singles and the first album,
Raymond moved on from
Wax Trax! with the next album coming out on
Concrete Productions - more on that another week. Since then he has been on a variety of labels, wallowing in Japan for some time in the 90s, collaborating with many others
and eventually rising from the mud to trot over to
Metropolis Records.
BONUS
<PIG>'s music had sold very well in Japan and
Raymond had
established relationships with various people and labels over there.
<PIG> released the
Wrecked album on 24th July 1996 on
XEO Invitation in Japan only. The album sports a very interesting cover photo/design
- see picture below - look closely! This album would go on to be licensed to
Wax Trax! /
TVT Records who reissued it the following
year on 16th September 1997 albeit with a different track listing. More recently the album got a limited edition, remastered double vinyl pressing with all the tracks included, by
Armalyte Industries. This limited vinyl was available during the
Prey & Obey
tour with the first gig on 24th October 2017.
Victor Entertainment (parent label of
XEO Invitation) have released the original Japanese album
digitally.
